There are times when something DIFFERENT just HAS to be said. This is one of those times:
I keep hearing too many “experts” & just echoes from the masses putting down TCU’s schedule. It all starts with guys like ESPN’s Craig James & CBS’s Gary Danielson, then what happens is once many of the masses hear it, they feel that it validates them to spew it everywhere ad nauseum & relentlessly, at that. But, you know what? Craig James & Gary Danielson can be wrong & guess what? They are & that’s why they have to HOPE & PRAY that something happens like what happened to Boise State against Nevada, because it’s the only way that they can maintain that what they are pushing holds any water whatsoever.
So, what am I suggesting here? TCU doesn’t play in the SEC & they likely never will. The fact is, they don’t play top competition week after week & so what happens? TCU’s TEAM gets ignored & they are judged the exact same way as Auburn is, it’s all about the comparison of Auburn (undefeated team) vs. their strength of schedule & TCU (undefeated team) vs. their strength of schedule & naturally, in the eyes of anyone who uses that method – Auburn wins… by alot (or so it would seem). That’s why many rank Auburn ahead of TCU & insist that, that’s the only way to do it. I don’t believe that one bit & I have Auburn ranked 2nd, ahead of TCU who I have at 4th.
The flaw with that? You’re ignoring the fact that TCU is coached extremely well, they have some pretty awesome players on both sides of the ball & what they are missing is the same thing that Boise State is missing – the depth needed to compete in a conference like the SEC for weeks upon weeks in a row. Does this mean that I 100% concede that TCU shouldn’t be ranked ahead of Auburn? Absolutely not. TCU’s team has no chance of recruiting the kinds of players that top level SEC teams can bring in, yet, TCU would give Auburn a heck of a fight anytime, anywhere. TCU has been called a “Sister of the Poor”, but what they’re asked to do is impossible, yet, that’s what they try to do.. the impossible. They try to be Alabama, Auburn & Arkansas, just on alittle bit of a different level & yet, still alot of people want even more out of them.
Now I’m going to tell you what TCU is & what they DO: TCU IS an amazing football team & they DO go out there & show anybody who’s willing to give them an open minded look, just that, just about everytime they step out there onto the football field. No, they don’t face the toughest competition around all year long, but what they do is go out there ready to lay the smack down every week on whoever you put infront of them & do so impressively, because if they don’t, people will turn their heads to them & not give them a second look based MORESO on their OPPONENTS than what TCU themselves actually did.
